Collection 1: Deeper

Creativity is a gift from the ultimate Artist & Creator: God! my first collection is called ‘Deeper’ because there is so much more to my business than just clothes and art. It is a gift He has given me and I want to use it to give glory to Him!

I have always loved the sea - it’s where I feel the most inspired and joyful! It has been a real leap of faith beginning this venture and it’s so cool how the sea, desire to see textile waste reduced and personal faith have been woven together in By Jess!

For years I have been passionate about slowing down the pace of fast fashion & textile waste. I want to take care of creation and keep circularity going. So all of the fabric I use is second hand, preloved, samples from companies, donated or minorly defected. This means I take what someone else sees as ‘imperfect’ or ‘old,’ and screen-print my designs onto it which gives it new purpose - exactly what God does with our ‘imperfect’ and ‘old’ lives!

So! New clothes? Not really. Perfect garments? Definitely not. But if you choose to purchase something, you help to take what is old and make it new!

You don’t have to be a Christian to make a purchase from me - maybe you just think the design is cool and if you do, thank you! Either way, know that I’m grateful for your support!

In the Bible, the sea can represent chaos and unknown - the way our lives are without Jesus. Each of these four designs tell a story of how God has rescued us, saved us and given us a reason to live, a purpose to our lives.

‘A Road in the Depths of the Sea’ draws out Isaiah 51:10: that God has made a way for us to be saved out of our chaos and unknown - our ‘sea’ - and that road is Jesus!

‘Out of the Depths’ is from Psalm 130:1, which reminds us that when life gets difficult and we feel like we’re at the bottom of the sea there is someone who can help! I believe that someone is Jesus - who rescues us from the depths of our minds, our choices, our circumstances - and gives us new life, hope and a reason to keep going.

‘The Deep End’ is based off a verse in the Bible from Hebrews 6:19 which talks about having hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. In the ‘sea’ of life we live in, everything changes so quickly. It can sometimes feel like nothing is steady or constant and that we’re fully in ‘the deep end.’ But Jesus is sure - He anchors us, grounds us, gives us hope and restores our lives from the bottom of the ‘sea.’

‘Found in the Depths of the Sea’ comes from Romans 5:8 which tells us that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. While we were living life alone without Him, He gave up His life so that if we choose to believe in Him we are saved into new, joyful, eternal life! When we were in the depths of our ‘sea,’ He found us.
